San Diego Weddings and Unique Portraits

Welcome to my archived blog space for Papaya Sky Photography. I ran Papaya Sky Photography part time in addition to my day job from the end of 2009 to 2012. After my son turned a few months old I decided to retire the business in order to focus more of my time on my two young kids and my day job.

For more information about what I'm doing now, please visit my current online portfolio website at www.motionjen.com.

Family Portraits: Virginia's 90th Birthday

I was honored when my friend Karen asked if I could take pictures for her grandmother Virginia's 90th birthday party. It was a surprise party, and the room was packed with friends and family waiting to great this wonderful woman.

She thought they were meeting just a few friends for lunch so needless to say the room full of people welcoming her was completely unexpected! Her son gave a touching speech to all present.
Karen and her mother did an awesome job of organizing the fun flapper theme. Both the balloons and decor was a huge hit with the kids (and adults too!)

And of course the delicious food and cakes!
The family also created a slideshow with pictures from Virginia's life....incredible to see all the amazing things she'd done over the last 90 years! What an inspiration. :)
We met a couple of days later to get the entire family photographed in the park just a few blocks from where she now lives. Here are just a couple of the family portraits and individual portraits I took of all the kids.

First Look: Expectant Anna

Anna has only a couple more weeks until her due date, so I was glad I could spend some time capturing how much she is glowing with her first child. :)

Baby Callum, March 15th 2010

Here are some more images from my session with Callum and Julia in Balboa Park in March. I still can't get over how fast he's growing, or how amazing his blue eyes are. After having a blast showing him the different flowers and sites of the park, we went back to Julia's house to capture some great father and son pictures with Jamie. :)

Fashion Shoot: Clover and Folly, April 4th

Clover and Folly will be showing at Thread again this upcoming weekend, so I met April last Sunday to get some pictures of the new pieces she's been working on for the show. A couple of new hats and a selection of jewelry awaited me, along with the talented Machelle who modeled the pieces. The necklaces, bracelets and earrings are combinations of painstakingly crocheted wire integrated with collected charms or even antique objects. Certainly a must-see! Here is a sample of just a few, visit Thread on Sunday to see the rest!

Flower week

Flower week! Different dramatic flower shots of flowers from my garden each day, then flowers on a birthday cake and at a friends house on the weekend.

Monday: I loved the little aphids crawling up these ones.

Tuesday: All of these were taken at night and lit with a flashlight.
Wednesday: I just love spring!Thursday: Since it was night these guys were closing up, but I just loved the layers the petals made!
Friday: Flower buds with dark green leaves.
Saturday: Cake from the 90th Birthday party I shot on Saturday! More pics from that session later. :)
Sunday: Orchids at a friend's house
