San Diego Weddings and Unique Portraits

Welcome to my archived blog space for Papaya Sky Photography. I ran Papaya Sky Photography part time in addition to my day job from the end of 2009 to 2012. After my son turned a few months old I decided to retire the business in order to focus more of my time on my two young kids and my day job.

Portrait Session: Buffy Bailey, Oct 31

I've always thought of my friend Buffy as a just a small magical spell away from being a cat anyway, so when she showed up with bright-orange cat ears for her Halloween costume photoshoot on Oct 31 my first reaction was, "hey, why didn't you dress up?" But even though they look real in the photos those are actually NOT her real ears, folks! The tail is probably real though, right Buffy?

We cracked out some of the colored gels for my flash so I could turn her green and make this crazy art-style photo. Yay, creative lighting is so much fun! And also, friends that let you turn them green are the best kind of friends. :)

Fashion Shoot: Clover and Folly, Dec 4&5

I had a blast shooting my first fashion photos last Friday for Clover and Folly's Winter collection. Both April and Nami modeled the last few pieces that April had just perfected for the fashion show at Thread on Saturday. Thanks for a wonderful time, April and Nami!

An overview of this new indie clothing line: Clover and Folly was founded by April Cromer drawing inspiration from the 1920's era with a dash of the 1940's and a modern twist. All the garments and accessories are hand-crocheted by April.

Joshua Tree Art Walk

Steve and I had the great opportunity to join a couple of our friends in Joshua Tree for the October Art Walk this year. Not only did we see some amazing art, but we were treated to the mouth-watering culinary talents of Chef Rosa who started out our Saturday morning by offering us delicious home-baked muffins right out of the oven. What a way to start out such an inspiring weekend!
Chef Rosa Ficara making a delicious soup, seasoned with her own special seasoning "Rosa's Touch." I brought a jar home with me and it immediately became a staple ingredient in my kitchen. Better order more before I run out!

Joshua Tree has many vintage clothing enthusiasts who revel in a distinct sense of personal style.

I love Melissa and Rosa because they are two people who you can laugh whole-heatedly with and who are always ready to sit down and eat good food with friends.

Baby Callum, October 28th 2009

Julia has watched other people's children almost her whole life, including babysitting for my sister and I when we were very young. How exciting then, that this year marked the arrival of her very own baby Callum! In addition to his incredible eyes and expressive looks (as well as his unique birthmark on his forehead), he is a very easy going and lovable baby. It will be so much fun to watch him grow!
