San Diego Weddings and Unique Portraits

Welcome to my archived blog space for Papaya Sky Photography. I ran Papaya Sky Photography part time in addition to my day job from the end of 2009 to 2012. After my son turned a few months old I decided to retire the business in order to focus more of my time on my two young kids and my day job.

Photo-a-Day 2011

Yay! 2011 is here and I've decided to start the photo-a-day project again. The project week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday, so for the first week I stuff in two extra days for the first two days of the year. Just as a bit of a disclaimer, there will probably quite a few number of photos of my daughter mixed in.... :)

This first week was "choose your own assignment week", so I decided to take all the photos at f1.8. I love how the super wide aperture blurs the background so much, though sometimes it's challenging to work with.

Saturday, Jan 1st: Empty Coke bottles from our New Years party
Sunday: Gwinna's teething giraffe in the Christmas tree
Monday: Steve playing with Gwinna
Tuesday: An old persimmon clings to winter branches

Wednesday: High, sweeping clouds
Thursday: The cat enjoys a birdbath full of rainwater
Friday: The moon peaks out from an evening mackrel sky
Saturday: Handcream on a desk
Sunday: Gwinna peaking from behind her blanket.

Family Session: Callum and Family Nov 7, 2010

For Callum's forth session we decided to go to the park so he could show off his wonderful trucks in the photos. I just can't get over how charming he is! :)

I love this next picture because I took a similar image while Julia was pregnant with Callum, and now that he's walking his feet can be in the shot as well! :)

Wedding: Julia and Aaron, Thursday Club San Diego, October 2, 2010

Julia and Aaron's wedding can be summarized by one word: love. Both the respect and devotion that they have for each other was evident on this gorgeous Saturday afternoon, as was the tremendous support from their two families. From the elegant dress carefully crafted by Julia's sister, to the touching speech of Aaron's brother thanking him for bringing her into the family, it was wonderful to be included in such a special day.

Julia's sister April makes some final modifications to the dress.

Nothing says love like cake in the face!

Welcome Gwinna Gaughran!

I am officially back from maternity leave and am enjoying every second with my wonderful daughter. :) She is growing so quickly and is learning new things every day...I am so looking forward to showing her all of the cool things in the world, like how the light will refract rainbows through the morning dew on all the flowers, and how the sky lights up in a tremendous soft pink through the marine layer at sunset when we get our awesome foggy evenings in Point Loma. And of course, the joys of true black and white photography! :D
